My first ever yoga class was at Destin Hot Yoga at the old studio! It was September and DHY offered a free week during National Yoga month. I was tired, stressed, and just didn’t feel well physically. Reading about all the health benefits of Yoga is what originally got me to the mat. I thought I was going to die during my first class. It took 3 weeks to gain the courage to come to another class. But I’m so glad I did!
What brings me to the mat?
The way I feel both during and after my time on the mat – physically and mentally! Of course, the stress release, health benefits, and better sleep are reason enough. But, in a time of cell phones, social media, and always being connected, my yoga practice also provides the ability to unplug and focus on what’s going on in my body and my life right now.
Even when I find that I don’t have as much time for a regular practice, I seem to take what I’ve learned during my more intense periods of dedication and draw on those yoga “skills” to deal with the challenges of everyday life – both personally and professionally.
What do I love about DHY?
Everything! The space has such a great energy and vibe. The teachers are amazing, encouraging, and knowledgeable. They offer different events and workshops outside of normal yoga classes, it gives you a chance to explore something new. I’ve enjoyed getting to know other DHY students as well!
