BASIC FACTS
All of our teachers are certified by recognized yoga schools. You can be sure that you receive a safe and well informed session EVERY time you come into our studio. We offer mostly heated classes, since the heat allows for greater flexibility, it minimizes muscle strain, lactic acid build up, reduces the chance of injury, allows for greater cleansing of the body and builds tremendous stamina and endurance. Our heated room is mirrored to allow for greater body awareness and to refine and deepen postures with easy self-correction.
THE DESTIN HOT YOGA ENVIRONMENT
We believe in a positive, supportive environment. We want you to have an amazing experience every time you walk through our doors. You will be encouraged to maximize the alignment in your postures; coached to reap the rewards of good deep breathing; coaxed to find ‘new places’ in your practice. We offer lockers for your personal items and a changing room for your convenience.
BEFORE CLASS *DHY locks their doors at the start of each class, being on time is a MUST*
New students may benefit by arriving a few minutes early to gather any last minute details and acclimate to the heat. Online class registration and signature of liability waivers may be done in advance of your arrival to the studio. Hydration is imperative. We recommend drinking plenty of water before and after class and many students supplement lost fluids by consuming electrolytes. It is best to fast 1-2 hours prior to your yoga session to ensure digestion of previously consumed foods.
WHAT TO BRING …
Yoga mats may be rented for $5, but we certainly encourage you to bring your own. Mat towels are required and LARGE beach towel will suffice. We have super absorbent, mat sized towels available for rent ($5) at our studio. Face towels are complimentary at the studio. Please bring a water bottle / sports bottle (no glass or colored liquids, please). Flow box water is offered for purchase and our community water cooler for refilling is complementary. Attire is preferential and we encourage you to wear comfortable apparel appropriate for a hot studio setting.
IF YOU THINK YOU CANNOT DO SOMETHING …
You are your best teacher. Listen to your intuition. Calm your breath and heart rate at first by standing still, looking at yourself in the mirror and inhaling/exhaling through your nose. If you sit down then keep your back straight and chest open to assist your breathing. Always breathe in and out through your nose, mouth closed. Feel free to stop and rest or lie down on your mat anytime. Your fullest expression may or may not look like that of your neighbor. Meet yourself where you are with grace and compassion.
AFTER CLASS
Give yourself permission to be still at the end of your practice and settle in to the final relaxation pose (savasana). Reset the heart to your normal resting rate by managing the breath and seal in your practice. You will be given a cool lavender cloth at the end of each hot class. You can place this on your forehead, face or neck to cool off. These towels are infused with lavender essential oil. If you have any adversions to essential oils, please inform your instructor prior to the start of class.
THE NEXT FEW DAYS
Responses from your body may vary. Low impact movement should provide mobility and flexibility, however, body soreness may be experienced if you are new to the practice of yoga. Our infrared heat system warms the body from the inside out and encourages muscle detox and recovery. We encourage new practitioners to attend 2-3 classes in the first week – as your mind will quickly overcome the challenge of the heated room and your body will begin to create muscle memory for ease of transitions. Benefits are immediate – the sweat releases toxins from your body and the fresh oxygenated blood that you create will begin to heal and restore your muscles, joints and organs. Over the next 10 days, your body will acclimate to the heated room and enhancements in your flexibility will be apparent.
It takes about 3 classes to acclimate to the heat and about 10 classes to LOVE IT HOT!
WELCOME TO DESTIN HOT YOGA.
Give Yourself Permission.
